JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT
We are in need a parent volunteers!! Contact Yongping Liang or Ping Lu if interested.
The Junior Achievement organization provides all the content and materials for these engaging lessons on the economy that are presented through age appropriate concepts by parent volunteers in the classroom. At Haycock, Junior Achievement typically is presented in the late spring and is done in a series of weekly lessons, or possibly once a day for a full week.
Throughout all lessons, Junior Achievement promotes seven key ideas. These ideas revolve around business, citizenship, economics, entrepreneurship, ethics, financial literacy, and career development. The seven program themes also teach students that people assume roles as individuals, consumers, and workers in an expanding cultural environment that extends from the self and family to global relations. Students learn the basic concepts of business and economics and how education is relevant to the workplace.
Volunteering for Junior Achievement will require the commitment to teach five lessons lasting 30-45 minutes each to your child’s class in the spring. All the materials required, including a thorough volunteer manual with all the plans and structure for each lesson, are provided for free from Junior Achievement. This is a great way to bring the outside world into the classroom.
The JA volunteer can be one parent or a team of parents. All scheduling is done with the classroom teacher to coordinate both the schedule of the class and the schedule of the volunteer.
