Reflections 2011 - 2012
“Diversity Means…”
The National PTA Reflections Program is an arts recognition and achievement program for students. It provides opportunities for students to express themselves creatively and to receive positive recognition for original works of art inspired by a pre-selected theme, while increasing community awareness on the importance of the arts in education. This year’s theme is Diversity Means.
Participation in the Reflections Program is a great way for students to explore and learn about various art forms. Creating art is a valuable learning process that challenges students to use their critical thinking skills as well as their creative talents to create art that supports a specific theme.
Students may submit an entry in any of the six arts areas listed below. Only original works of art are accepted.
•Literature
•Musical composition
•Photography
•Visual arts
•Dance Choreography
•Film/Video Production
Reflections Forms and Rules
Reflections entries are due to the Haycock coordinator Maureen Lydon by October 21, 2011.
Information will be posted soon with regard to the drop-off point for Haycock entries.
Every Haycock student participating will receive a certificate.
An external panel of judges will choose 1 Haycock entry from each category per grade division; the grade divisions are preschool to grade 2; grades 3-5; and grades 6-8. The one selected entry by category and grade division will be forwarded on to the VA council level and district level for judging.
The National PTA has made some changes in the Reflections Program for 2011-2012:
- All entries and documents must be labeled. For instance, Artist Statement must be labeled “state abbreviation.arts category.grade level.statement.student last name.student first name”
Examples: va.film.mid.statement.smith.mary.doc
- Only one format will be accepted for each category. They are as follows: Dance Choreography: .flv, Film Production: .flv, Literature Files: .doc (if typed), .pdf (if hand written), Music Files: .mp3, Music Scores: .pdf, Photography: .jpg, Visual Arts: .jpg
- Entries must be enclosed in or attached to a manila envelope with a clasp.
- All entries must have titles. “Untitled” will not be accepted.
- Consent forms are required this year whenever others appear in the student’s work.
