Here is a sample of what we have done successfully in the past and can be repeated:
-Regular visits outdoors to observe seasonal changes in the schoolyard
-Plant or tend gardens (butterfly, hummingbird, Native American, etc.)
-Participate in the “Journey North” tulip and hummingbird tracking project
-Bring in speakers (such as raptor rehabilitators & watershed specialists)
-Provide materials for the small world study and building dioramas
-Organize schoolyard surveys, scavenger hunts and team-building activities
-Maintain bird feeders and bird baths
-Provide seeds and supplies to start plants inside
-Purchase bulbs for forcing in the classroom (not everything has to be outdoors!)
-Feed the pond turtle and the worms in the courtyard compost bin
-Provide materials to weave on the outdoor loom
