Ever Wonder What The Haycock PTA Does?
The PTA plays an instrumental role in ensuring that Haycock is a vibrant and dynamic place of learning for our children and one of the best schools in the area. We work hard to support Haycock’s mission of encouraging “the whole child,” promoting students’ desire for learning, sense of community and appreciation of others. The PTA seeks to foster communication between parents, students, teachers, and school staff. Through PTA meetings, Hotsheets, the website, and PTA programs and social events, the PTA offers many ways to stay informed and get connected to your child’s school.
Haycock PTA:
1. Provide stipends for teachers to purchase items needed for their classrooms
2. Assist with Advanced Academic Orientation & Kindergarten Orientation
3. Host committee chair orientation social
4. Update the PTA website to inform the community about event and activities at Haycock
5. Coordinate Cougars Care to give Haycock students opportunities to provide help to those in need
6. Organize local grocery store programs that raise $$$ for Haycock
7. Fund Staff Conference Attendance –including Chesapeake Bay seminars for 5th and 6th grade staff, and participation in an Autism Conference and others.
8. Sponsor the Movie Night in Fall and Spring as a free fun social event
9. Pay for buses to take students on field trips to: Riverbend Park, the Postal Museum, Camp Highroad, the Udvar Hazy Museum, National Geographic, Huntley Meadows and Seussical
10. Offer hospitality receptions and gifts throughout the year for our teachers, staff, administration, custodians, and bus drivers.
11. Host the Kindergarten play date on the playground
12. Offer spirit wear boosting school spirit
13. Organize and executes a Newcomers Tour for all new Haycock families
14. Sponsor the 6th Grade Party
15. Provide the Back to School Supply Program to enable families one-stop shopping for their back to school needs
16. Publish The Hotsheet – weekly electronic newsletter
17. Compile, print and distribute the Student Directory
18. Purchase Bike Racks and Heart & Pulse Monitors
19. Sponsor the Halloween Party
20. Purchase Smart Boards & Laptops for in classroom use
21. Provide scholarships for students in need to attend class field trips, participate in Foreign Language programs and take part in after school activities.
22. Coordinate after school activities such as; funky pottery, Abrakadoodle Art, chess club, drama, Funky Pottery, Girls on The Run, hoops & soccer
23. Organize International Night
24. Sponsor the Cultural Arts program bringing authors, dancers, plays to students through in school assemblies
25. Sponsor the Flex Program that provides foreign language learning to our students
26. Plan and implement the Fun Fair
27. Sponsor the Trek for Tech
28. Sponsor International Night
29. Supply water coolers in the teacher’s lounge
30. Support staff training on using Smart Boards effectively in the classroom
31. Fund PTA curriculum enhancement programs such as Art Appreciation, Junior Achievement, Cougar Woods, Reflections and Star Reading
32. Finance VA Student Council Membership; Registration fees for Math Olympiad, Continental Math, Mathcounts, Wordmasters, AMC 8 Math, Science Olympiad; VA Studies newspapers; Ancient Egypt Supplies; Supplies for 3rd grade class project; Wrist Bands for 2nd grade
33. Updated the community on the FCPS Budget
34. Helps the front office staff stuff 1st day of school folders for each student
35. Represent Haycock at cluster and school district level meetings and communicate key issues back to our members
36. Hold monthly meetings to keep members up to date on school events and issues
37. Funds the forgot my lunch fund
